The US Open is already into the second week. It seems that it just started a few days back. This is the most negligient I have ever been of a grand slam tennis tournament since I learned about tennis. It was probably because of the distractions outside and the Olympic games which made me really tired. This year the US Open site looks as good better than it has ever looked. You can visit it at www.usopen.orgAndre Agassi plays Roger Federer tonight in the quarter finals. The old man has been one of the players that I have really supported in my life. I just wonder if he has what it takes to beat the world number one.

Kuznetsova won the women's singles title. I am really sorry for Dementieva. She was runner up in both French Open and US Open. I was not supporting her at Roland Garros. But I will be supporting her whoever she plays with next time.

Instead of starting a new thread, lets use last year's thread for this year as well.

Yes she did. Can anyone stop Roger Federer? I have a hunch that Kim Clijsters will grab this one finally. I would never support her is she is playing Sharapova or Justine Hennin though.

Oh, okay. I watched two tennis matches in the last 24 hours. In fact it was three. I saw Henin Hardenne, Davenport and Ginnepri win. Sania Mirza vs Maria Sharapova is the next match. I wonder if Mirza can win it.

haven't watched the matches this year. just following the grand slam in newspapers. he probably won't win it, but as long as he's there, am rooting for agassi. then there's federer of course.

Yes, me too. Aggasi is my favourite. He is in the last eight. I was watching Clijsters vs Venus before going to give exams this morning. It was tied at one set all. I'll go and check that result in the next hour. This tournament is going well. Hennin is sadly out of it. But then again, I hope Clijsters can win this thing. Whatever prize Clijsters wins this year at the US open will be doubled.

Yes Clijsters won the third set 6-1. The second set was really thrilling. Venus served first and took a 2-1 lead. Then came a string of breaks. Venus broke for 3-1 and 4-2 but Clijsters broke back to 2-3 and 3-4. Then Clijsters held serve to make it 4-4. She then broke Venus again to lead 5-4 but failed to serve out the set. But she had another chance to do it after she broke again. She served out the set at the second time of asking to win the second set 7-5 after having lost the first 6-4 failing to stay in the set serving at 4-5. Clijsters, can she win her first ever grand slam this year? I think she has to be the favourite. Her ranking dropped to as low as 133 last year.

Andre was sensational in beating Blake earlier today. The women's semis will be between Clijsters and Sharapova and Pierce and Dementieva.
I think Clijsters will beat Dementieva in the finals.

September 11, 2005 (0617- I was up at about three thirty in the morning because it was raining cats and dogs. I realized a few windows were open and closed them. On TV at the US open, Roger Federer was leading Lleyton Hewitt by two sets to love in the semifinal. I also came to know that Andre Agassi had won another five-setter to reach the final after beating Robbi Ginepri. The women's final started about twenty minutes after I woke up again and went to the TV. I was worried the match may have already finished. So I was trying to check the result. I came back to my room after Clijsters broke Pierce's serve in the very first game. I will study for one hour and then go back and check the score. I also wonder if Hewitt managed anything against Federer but that is very unlikely. If Federer loses in the final, then there will be eight different winners in the four grand slam singles events this year. -0624)

Kim won. I was just in time to watch the presentation. The final will be between Federer and Agassi. Federer is more likely to win. Like Kim, he's the favourite and is up against an experienced older opponent. I hope Agassi can find his magic one last time. It will be a treat.

The match won't start before 1615 New York time but it won't start until the doubles match starting at 1300 ends.

If only it hadn't been against Agassi, I'd have loved it when Federer won.
