The Nepalese cricket team took on England in their Under-19 World Cup opener for the third Under-19 world cup in a row. Like the last two editions of the tournament Nepal were beaten by England. Nepal had also played England in the world cup before that but then it was when Nepal had luckily scraped through the group stage into the super-league. Even though Nepal had beaten Kenya in order to advance to the super-league in the expense of South Africa and assisted by rain, they couldn't reach that far in the next two world cups despite a better showing.
After losing to England in the opening matches of the last two world cups, the Nepalese Under 19 team had managed to beat a test side on the very next day- Pakistan and South Africa. Even after that Nepal beat the fourth team in the group but England's defeat against the other test side cost Nepal the chance of finishing in the top two and advancing any further.
This time, Zimbabwe were the opponents on the second day for Nepal. Zimbabwe were fielding players who had played test cricket as well but Nepal were well poised for victory. However, they probably got too nervous and couldn't finish the match which they lost by two runs. When they were approaching the target Nepal would have thought Zimbabwe wouldn't beat England and they would be safely through to the super eight. However, they didn't get a third successive win against a test side the day after beating England.
Zimbabwe were the team that had denied Nepal the plate championships in New Zealand. Sweet revenge was on the cards but Nepal just missed out despite the good start given by Kanishka Chaugain who is playing his third under 19 world cup. I didn't know he was under 15 in New Zealand.
