Today, we had a relatively good attendance at the smart club. Two weeks ago, we had very few people for the third time in succession. I hope this continues for a long time.
The co-ordinator Sushil was present this time. The person whom he had handed over to last time, Binny, wasn't present even though she was supposed to be the Grammarian today. Dev Kumar had to do the job all by himself as a result. I would have been willing to fill in though.
The co-ordinator did a good job even though he was confused about whose turn it was many times. When we were reflecting, he said that others had been doing the same in the past. That wasn't a good excuse at all.
The pre-decided speaker was supposed to be Prashansha Gadtaula. Sadly, she was absent. Prajwal replaced him with his speech on Legalizing Prostitution. So, he was more of a self-decided speaker today. His commentator was Krishna who gave kind of a speech himself. I think he was supposed to only comment on what Prajwal said.
The self-decided speaker was Astha Joshi. She has a nice sweet voice. In her speech today, she was reading from the material she had written down. Even when I didn't look at her speak, I felt like I was listening to News on radio. Her speech had content, but it was more of reading than giving a speech. It probably had too much information and she would have done well to add some humour and examples to it. She tackled the questions she was asked well. The co-ordinator gave time for only one question when the question answer round should have been five minutes long. The commentator was Sumit Paudel. He gave quite an interesting comment. I'm not sure he was aware of the fact that the time limit for commentators is two minutes. Sumit spoke well.
The impromptu speaker was Sanju. Sanju started of pretty well. It was a great effort to come up and speak for four minutes. She was sick, but still came and spoke. Her commentator was Reeta.
The grammarian today was Dev. I have a feeling that he also tried to make corrections at a few sentences correctly said in the first place. One blunder he made was to use the word uncomplete more than once. He'd do well to start saying incomplete from next time.
The time keeper did a very good job. I specially liked the fact that he kept his own time and let us know how much time he took to tell us every one else's time. That was quite funny.
Anita did as good a job as she has always done. She was the Ah! counter today.
We had three observers today. Savita had a very nice body language going up to speak. She thinks the club has improved a lot since she stopped coming. I wonder if she was really speaking the truth. Suddhumna's observations were also very wonderful. I'm really excieted about the prospect of him coming to the smart club on a regular basis. The third observer, Bidhur (I think) spoke in Nepali and gave a few of his comments.
I saw Sagar for the first time since the first session that I attended. Sagar gave his comments pretty well. The only thing I didn't agree with him about was the fact that the impromptu speaker should be given the topic ten minutes in advance. He was not aware of the decisions we made last week. And I have always felt that impromptu should be given the topic on the spot.
For the first time, I had no role to play in the smart club. I didn't go up and speak anything.
I was supposed to present a paper in the Moderation Session, but it was also cancelled. So, it was a lucky break as well as a blank day for me.
Next week, Sanju is the co-ordinator. I have taken the job of time-keeper. I will also be presenting my paper next week.
