Today's Smart Club was co-ordinated by Sanju Nepal. She did a good job. It was a job well done. It wasn't flawless. I'd give her eight on a scale of one to ten.
The Predecided speaker, Mr. Krishna Neupane, spoke on SAFTA, the way forward. He wasn't able to accumulate all things in the allotted time. He spent a bit more time going into the topic in the beginning. He gave a good speech. He has confidence in himself. His body language was also good. I would only give him seven though.
Dev Kumar's speech today was on Pre Maritial Sex. This was his self decided topic. I was surprised that he spoke for less than four minutes. Even then, he was repeating a few things again and again. I was impressed by his choice of topic but I wasn't at all impressed by what he had to say. Maybe there aren't too many things that can be said on this topic. He should control his overuse of the word the. I wouldn't know if it should count as an Ah! or an error of Grammar until I read something he's written. For his speech today, I'd give him a six.
Sagar was the impromptu speaker and he did very well. He was given the topic after he was on the stage but still he sounded like he'd known the topic beforehand. He was good but there are points which can be made for arguing with him. He gets an eight.
All the three speakers had a few questions from the audience but Sanju stopped it with some time left for the five minute time to finish. I noted that Suman spent one minutes and ten seconds for asking one of his questions to Dev.
The three commentators were pretty good. Rita replaced Manogya as the commentator for the predecided speaker. She was good and pointed out a few things. I would only give her a six for her comments today.
Rup Bahadur Sunuwar was commentator for Dev. He started giving his own speech while he was commentating. He didn't do a bad job but I can not approve the way he ended his speech. He was the commentator and not the speaker today. I'll give him five.
Manish Joshi's comments were very short. I think there were many things he missed out on. There were so many good things about Sagar's speech. He should have mentioned them. He still gets a six.
The grammarians were very good today. I feel that Sumit was better but he was late. Astha was replaced by Binny who came first and spotted out the grammatical errors in the speakers. However, it was like she was reading a list of grammatical errors which wouldn't be easy to understand unless one heard the whole sentence again. Sumit had a lovely voice and command in his language. That's why Sumit gets nine and Binny only eight.
Now I think you can easily guess what my role was today. I was the time keeper. This was the second time I was time keeper. It was a better experience than last time. I had less trouble handling the clock. I did forget to show Rita the flash card after one minute. She didn't take longer than her allotted two minutes anyway. I was pretty good reporting what I had to report. I still have lots of room for improvement. But I think I was good enough for a seven.
The Ah! counter was also good today. He didn't count my Ah!s though which he probably should have done. This was the second time this happened. But Sameer also gets a seven for his job.
Now coming on the observers, it was nice to see Dharana as one of the observers today. She went there and spoke with a beautiful voice. I don't know if I'll get to see any more of her at this place in the future but it would be lovely to have her. She said that she had seen this club before and like many other observers in the past said that this place has got better. She gets an eight.
The second observer was Bhuwan. He said he wasn't good at speaking while he started on it. I won't believe you. He gets an eight too.
The chairperson today was Prajwal. I was not as impressed by his critical comments as I was when he was the chairperson last time. But I would give him an eight anyway.
There were a few others who didn't have their roles in the formal session. But when, we were reflecting on the first session, it was nice to have Apeckshya and Sudhyumna's observations. Astha and Sushil didn't speak that much. Manogya was also present in the first session today.
In the second session, many had gone already. In the moderation session, moderated by Dev Kumar, I was one of the paper presenters along with Krishna. Krishna made his presentation first. I was in second. I didn't get too many critical remarks on it. I must have done a good job. Nishchal commented on a few things like the paper I was holding and rolling in my hand. During the presentation, I realized that I was holding it unnecessarily, put it on the table, and took it back unconsciously some time later. I got a five from him for eye contact. I wasn't looking at everybody all the time. If Apeckshya was one of the commentators, I think she might have said I was looking only at her. That was probably because she was directly in front of the me from where I was standing. I finished my speech in time. Krishna also did the same even though his presentation had a lot more content. I think my presentation was very simple and easy for everyone to understand. But then again, I said things that everyone already knew. I am not sure how much of what Krishna said I understood. All in all, it was a memorable paper presentation. I could have done better had I done a bit more homework in preparing the paper and if I had rehearsed my presentation before going to give it. Suman ran out of time and didn't have enough time to comment on me. I think he spent more than two minutes each commenting on the other two speakers and he was left with less than half a minute for me. But anyway, I have managed to escape from it now.
Next week's roles have also been decided.
In the first session that will be co-ordinated by the ever-so-funny Suman, Nishcal will be the predecided speaker who will speak in our pre-decided topic "Privatization of Public Enterprizes." Apeckshya will be the self decided speaker. I am looking forward to her speech. Astha is now going to be the impromptu speaker. I'm also looking forward to hear her speak. This time she won't be reading the news. Manogya, Sumit, and Binny are the three commentators. Sushil and I will be the grammarians. I will probably be sharing the grammarian's job for the first time and it should be easy unlike the last two occassions when I was grammarian. Rup will keep time and Manish will count the Ah!s next week. Deve Kumar will be the chairperson next week.
In the moderation session, the topic is Social Enterpreneurship. Nischal is the moderator. Binny and Sushil are the two paper presenters. Dev and I will be the two commentators.
I have realized that we are not sharing all the roles evenly at the club. Some people are taking the speaking roles very often while many others are being quiet all the time.
