Smart Club January 21, 2006
Today was the day after an afternoon curfew and that may have been one of the reasons why many people were not present. However we had enough for each of the roles. It was just that there weren't many who were watching.
The co-ordinator today was Suman. He forgot to bring the file that the co-ordinator is supposed to carry to and from our smart club sessions. That was really careless of him. During the session, I think he was speaking more than he needed to most of the time. He is a nice person. But for his performance today, I would give him a score of six.
The predecided speaker Nischal was very good today. He had a commanding voice and his speech on Privatization had good content. I would give him a score of eight.
The selfdecided speaker Ojaswi spoke on the negative impact of media. The best thing about his speech was his voice, tone, and accent. However, I realized that he did not maintain that good an eye contact. He was probably looking only in the direction of his evaluator. I would still give him eight points for the speech well delivered.
The impromptu speaker Suddhumna, who has been coming in, watching, and giving valuable comments for a few weeks, did an excellent job today. I was most eager to listen to his speech and I think he would also get an eight.
The speakers today were brilliant, this means.
The evaluators were just as good. Sagar, Prajwal, and Binny did their jobs very well. Sagar probably took a little more than the time he was allotted but it has been great to see him back in the smart club in the last few weeks after he didn't attend quite a few weeks. It had been a long time since I saw him. I still remember he was a grammarian and a very impressive one when I first came to the smart club on October 1.
Prajwal did his job in 30 seconds and he said all he should have. Binny did her job well as well. All three evaluators also get the score of eight.
I was the grammarian and I always get stuck when I'm up there to speak. I need to devise some method to get a flow into my speeches.
The time keeper today was Mr. Rup. He nearly started doing more than he was supposed to do but didn't do so in the end. That's why he also gets an eight.
The Ah! counter averaged people's Ah!s into Ah!s per minute. That was innovative. He gets a nine this week.
The observers were brilliant, specially the first one. Bhaskar and Rabi have both taken up roles of a speaker next week. I'm looking forward to both of them and more so to Bhaskar. I hadn't seen Rabi at the Smart Club since my first ever Smart Club session.
The Chairperson gave his observations and the sessions ended.
It was sad that we didn't have a moderation session this week as well. It isn't being held on a regular basis. I think we should make sure we have it every week.
During the discussions, Prajwal sounded really rude to Suman. I think he should understand that Suman is here only to learn. He's been a mild and gentle person all the while and it was really sad to hear what he said today.
Also during the reflections, Binny tried to be over smart. She may have a feeling she knows grammar better. She was asking me to note down Suman's grammatical errors during the session. I knew I was the grammarian even though I forgot it for a while and I was listening to the speech and doing the job. She didn't have to ask me to not down the errors. If there were some things she wanted to suggest, she could easily have done so herself. It was great that Sagar spoke up and said that. I dont know if I would have been able to reply that effectively.
Suddhumna's comments were really inspiring. He's brightened this place by being here during the sessions in 2006. He comes and always takes the seat at the same place and he's a great person to have arround.
I only hope the attendance will increase again from next week. Anita will be the co-ordinator. Our predecided speech will be on the Upcoming Elections. Bhaskar will be the speaker. Rabi and I are the other speakers. I am going to be an impromptu speaker for the second time. The evaluators next week are going to be... I forgot their names. I know Sudhhumna is one of them and he's going to evaluate my speech. I couldn't have asked fore anyone else. Sagar will be the grammarian. The next session will be chaired by Binny Bhandari. I am looking forward to my impromptu speech. I hope the topic next week will be something I can confidentally speak on.
