I was present at the smart club today for the first time since April 1. There were quite a few new faces. Many of the speakers old still look the same.
My own four-month abstinence is now over.
I always used to think that I would be at the smart club every Saturday unless I was outside Kathmandu. I proved myself wrong over the last few months. I may become a regular once again though. It was a great feeling to meet my old friends today after a very long time.
I have a smart club role for myself for next week. The three speeches will be by Manogya Sharma, Shruti Kadariya, and Samundra Acharya. Shamir Ameer, Richa, and Nima Norbu are the commentators. I will be the grammarian alongside Astha Joshi. Rashmi KC will keep time and Sushil Shrestha will count the ums.
I remember that used to write about every smart club session I attended. I am doing the same again.
Today was election day. A new executive committee was elected today and the old committee was dissolved. There were supposed to be seven seats in the executive committee. But now eight people will have to take those seven seats because of a tie. I can smell something. No one looked at ways in which we could keep the ex-com down to just seven members. There should have been a re-election.
The speeches that we got to hear today were from the former ex-com members and the candidates for today's election. Manogya Sharma's one-minute pre-election speech was perfect. Everyone else lagged miles behind him. Only a recount brought Prajwal level with Aastha. Three of the members of the last executive committee were elected for a second term. I am really surprised that an executive committee can be so flexible to allow one extra member.
Even thought counting the votes was fun, I think Robs idea of not announcing the total votes and simply naming the winners in alphabetical order was a better idea.
